PDVSA to incorporate 6 new rigs in West this month
Caracas (Platts) 3 Nov 06
Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA will incorporate six new drilling rigs into its operations in western Venezuela this month, a report said Friday.
Maracaibo daily Panorama cited Ricardo Coronado, general manager of PDVSA’s western division, as saying that three of the rigs will be assigned to Lake Maracaibo and the other three to the eastern coast of the Lake.
In August, PDVSA given the green light to 13 companies to contract 27 oil drills for use in both eastern and western Venezuela, which include the six rigs cited in Friday’s report.
PDVSA expects to raise its oil-drilling rig count to 130 from 102 by the start of 2007, company E&P director Luis Vierma said last month.
PDVSA also signed an agreement with China’s CNPC in August to acquire 13 rigs.
PDVSA currently owns 70 oil-drilling rigs.
